Sierra Leone and Guinea have presented legal, administrative, and cartographic documents to clarify their land and maritime boundaries, with support from the German Cooperation through GIZ under the African Union Border Program (AUBP).
The presentation was to strengthen their common border, which was done during one of the Third Joint Technical Commission meetings held in Kailahun District from March 23 to 30, 2025.
Mr. Francis Langumba Keili, who led Sierra Leone’s delegation, and Mr. Moriba Magassouba, who led Guinea’s delegation, talked about their commitment to regional peace and cooperation.
The process follows recommendations from a joint awareness mission conducted in late 2024.
Facilitator Mr. Saa David Leno expressed delight for both nations’ efforts and explained the importance of border reaffirmation in maintaining stability. The countries agreed to hold the fourth meeting in Guinea before mid-2025 to continue the process.
This better give us Yenga back
I hope and pray that the presentation of the Administrative and Cartographic documents by the Republic of Sierra Leone and the Republic of Guinea to the African Union Boundary Programme, with the view to clarifying the land and marine boundaries between the two sister countries and the subsequent meetings that will be held will be geared towards the removal of the Guineans soldiers from Yeanga as it is crystal clear that Yenga belongs to Sierra Leone.
