The Minister of Information and Communication, Mohamed Rahman Swaray has disclosed that Sierra Leone will be hosting the African Music Challenge.
He informed the Ambassador of Special Envoy for Investments and Entertainment, Kao Denero during a courtesy call to the Ministry.
The Minister said that the event is scheduled between February to May, 2022. Adding that the office of the Ambassador for Entertainment and Investment would be charged to coordinate the hosting of the competition on behalf of the Country.
Also, considering the important role played by the entertainment industry, the Information Minister disclosed that his ministry will soon reach out to the office of the Ambassador for Entertainment and Investment for the popularization of the 2021 Cyber Act.
The Minister also expressed appreciation to Ambassador Kao Denero and team zest in wanting to partner with the Ministry of Information and Communications. The Minister said, “the appointment of Kao Denero by President Julius Maada Bio is a testament of the President’s love and respect for the entertainment industry.”
The Entertainment Ambassador highlighted several suggestions that would develop and sustain the entertainment industry; to name but few: signing Sierra Leonean artists and musicians as Brand Ambassadors of mobile companies; reduction of internet tariff by telecommunication operators and Internet Service Providers and development of an Entertainment Policy.
The information minister assured the Ambassador and team that the concerns raised would be swiftly looked into and urged them to remain united as the government of President Bio will bring an everlasting development in the creative industry of Sierra Leone.
