The Chief Justice of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Hon. Justice Komba Kamanda, has officially announced the dates for the judiciary’s 2026 Easter Vacation.

According to a public notice issued on March 16, 2026, the Easter recess will officially commence on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, and conclude on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.

To ensure that urgent legal matters are attended to during this two-week break, the Chief Justice has appointed two Duty (Vacation) Judges. Honourable Justice J.F. Hinga and Honourable Justice Mark Ngegba will preside over cases requiring immediate attention between April 1 and April 15.

Despite the vacation period for the higher courts, essential judicial services will continue to function. The notice clarifies that all High Court Registries will remain fully operational throughout the break. Additionally, Magistrates Courts across the country will continue their regular sessions, closing only on designated public holidays.

The directive has been copied to key stakeholders in the justice sector, including the Sierra Leone Bar Association, the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Correctional Services, and Police Prosecutions, to ensure a coordinated approach during the recess.
