Sierra Leone’s Minister of Information and CivicEducation, Chernor Bah, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to people-focused digital transformation during the Sierra Leone Innovation Showcase, a side event at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Speaking on the theme “Driving Sustainable Development through Digital Transformation,” Minister Bah emphasized that technology must serve citizens first.

“For us, digital transformation is about people first, technology second,” he said.

He highlighted the Cotton Tree Civic Education Strategy, which combines digital literacy, civic awareness, and open government practices nationwide. At the center of these reforms is DigitizeSalone, a flagship initiative designed to ensure no citizen is left behind in Sierra Leone’s digital journey.

Minister Bah further noted that digital civic platforms are strengthening links between citizens and government, fostering transparency, dialogue, and accountability.

“Together, we are building a future where technology not only powers innovation but strengthens trust, participation, and accountability,” he added.

The event was convened by the Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation to spotlight Sierra Leone’s progress in leveraging digital tools for governance and sustainable development
