The Sierra Leone Police has begun installing Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras throughout Freetown.
“This initiative aims to enhance public safety and assist law enforcement efforts in combating crime,” the police said in a statement.
The cameras will be strategically placed in public spaces, high-traffic areas, and known crime hotspots.
“The cameras will facilitate round-the-clock monitoring, offering law enforcement agencies valuable assistance in crime detection and prevention, ultimately contributing to a safer environment for all residents and visitors of Freetown.,” the police said.

The collected footage will be used as evidence in criminal investigations.
The police said the installation of CCTV cameras is part of a broader commitment to modernize the city’s security infrastructure and foster a sense of safety within the community.
