The Sierra Leone Police has issued a press release stating that it has informally learnt that Dr. Samura Kamara, has made plans to travel to Kambia Town and Tonko Limba Chiefdom respectively, to hold political events on Friday July 22 without recourse to the Police for approval and proper security planning and coverage of same.
“There is no denying the fact that such events have the potential to attract huge supporters at the places, so named. It is for this reason that the Police are seriously concerned that Dr. Samura Kamara would organise such without recourse to the Police for approval and proper security planning and coverage of same movements and events in the North-West region” it said.
The SLP says it is therefore considered a big security risk to hold such events without official knowledge of the Police stressing that experience has shown that such convergence of political supporters has the potential to attract unwarranted public order situations.
In view of the foregoing, the SLP advised Dr. Samura Kamara and team to prioritise notifying and seeking the approval of the Inspector General of Police before ever embarking on any of such movements and planned events.
“This is meant to ensure and guarantee better understanding and engagements with the Police, for the proposed events.” Said the SLP.
It ended by stating that its management considers the safety and security of everyone residing in Sierra Leone as its sacred responsibility; and therefore looks forward to seeing Dr. Samura Kamara and his team fully complying with the provisions of the Public Order Act No.46 of 1965 i.e. notify the Police in writing for approval.
