The management of Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has on Saturday 2 July issued a press release stating that those who are planning to organises and participates in an unauthorised demonstration shall be made to face the full consequences of the law.

According The SLP, they are aware of texts, audio and video messages making the rounds on social media, pointing to planned demonstrations scheduled for Monday 4th July, 2022.

“These demonstrations are being pushed for by an unknown or unregistered group that calls itself the National Women’s Wing Sierra Leone (NWW/SL),” SLP stated.

“In view thereof, the SLP’s management would like to inform the general public that no permit was granted to any person or group of persons or organisation to hold any form of demonstrations in any part of the country, on Monday 4th July, 2022, or thereafter.”

The SLP further stated that whoever attempts to hold any demonstration(s) and/or participate in any demonstration, shall be deemed to have contravened the provisions of the Public Order act No. 46 of 1965; which provide for people to obtain permit from the inspector general of police before engaging in such.

“Be it noted that whoever organises and/or participates in an unauthorised demonstration shall be made to face the full consequences of the law,” the police stated.

They however encouraged anyone wishing to hold demonstration anywhere within Sierra Leone, to first apply and seek for approval, as provided for by section 17 of the public order act no. 46 of 1965.
