Sierra Leone has recorded strong international interest at the 46th International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR 2026) in Madrid, with over 1,000 visitors engaging with the country’s tourism stand during the first four days of the event.

The figures were released on Day Five by Mr. Ibrahim Bundu Kamara, Tourism Data Analyst at the National Tourism Board (NTB), who described the turnout as a positive sign for Sierra Leone’s growing global tourism appeal.

According to Mr. Kamara, a total of 1,050 distinct visitors were recorded at the Sierra Leone stand from Day One to Day Four, reflecting a steady increase in inquiries and meaningful engagements throughout the exhibition.

“The interest we are seeing goes beyond casual visits,” Mr. Kamara said. “Many of the discussions held were detailed and focused on Sierra Leone’s tourism potential.”

Data collected from the stand show that visitors expressed interest in several key areas, including ecotourism, heritage and cultural tourism, independent travel, and academic research. Popular attractions discussed included Sierra Leone’s beaches, rainforests, historical sites such as Bunce Island, and the country’s unique cultural heritage.

As FITUR 2026 enters its final day, the Sierra Leone delegation continues to engage with potential partners, tour operators, and individual travelers, with plans to strengthen relationships established during the fair.

The National Tourism Board says Sierra Leone’s participation at FITUR 2026 has boosted international visibility for the destination and is expected to contribute positively to tourism growth in the coming year.
