The President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), Alhaji Manika Kamara, departed Freetown on Monday, January 12, 2026, for an official ten-day visit to India.
The diplomatic mission follows a formal invitation from the Indian Ministry of Publicity, facilitated through the Indian High Commission in Sierra Leone.
The visit, scheduled to run from January 13 to 23, 2026, forms part of a broader initiative aimed at strengthening professional ties between journalists from Central and West Africa and their counterparts in India.
It is designed to promote collaboration, knowledge exchange, and mutual understanding within the media landscape.
During his stay, President Kamara is expected to engage with several leading media institutions across India.
Discussions will focus on opportunities for support, collaboration, and partnerships in key areas such as media development, professional training, and journalist exchange programmes.
Speaking ahead of his departure, Kamara underscored the significance of international engagement for the growth of journalism.
“This visit is a unique opportunity to foster collaboration, share experiences, and strengthen the role of journalism in promoting democracy and development across our regions,” he said.
SLAJ has described the invitation as recognition of the growing influence of African journalism and a positive step toward deepening bilateral cooperation between Sierra Leone and India in the fields of media and communication.
