The leadership of the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) has resolved that it will not support the extension of the State of Public Emergency due to expire on 6th August, 2015.

At the party’s stakeholders meeting on Saturday to look into the request by President Ernest Bai Koroma for support for the extension of the emergency regulations, the opposition members voted overwhelmingly against any such extension.

An official letter stating the position of the SLPP has already been sent to the Speaker of Parliament.

STATE OF PUBIC EMERGENCY

Following a meeting with His Excellency, the President and representative members of all political parties at State House on Thursday, 30th July 2015, the Leadership of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) met on Saturday 1st August to deliberate on and take final decision in respect thereof.

We wish to convey to you that in accordance with our Press Release of 29th July 2015 the Leadership of the Sierra Leone People’s Party has resolved that, for now, the Party will not endorse any further extension of the current State of Public Emergency due to expire on Thursday 6th August 2015. (A copy of the said Press Release is hereto attached).

We count on your cooperation to speedily convey the said decision to His Excellency the President.
