The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has refuted allegations made by Lawyer Yada Williams, who accused a Road Traffic Corps officer of soliciting a bribe.
In a press release issued on November 11, 2025, the Authority described the allegations as false and misleading, emphasizing that no such act of corruption had been officially reported or verified. Following an internal review, the SLRSA said no evidence was found to substantiate Mr. Williams’ claim and therefore urged him to retract his public statement.
According to the Authority, the traffic stop in question was lawfully conducted after Mr. Williams’ driver was found operating an unregistered vehicle, in violation of Section 3(1) of the Road Traffic Act, 2007.
In response to the social-media post, the SLRSA stated that it immediately reached out to Mr. Williams and formally requested evidence to support his bribery allegations. However, as of this date, no proof has been presented.
The Authority also revealed that it has since provided Mr. Williams with a receipt of payment for the fine imposed on his unregistered vehicle further confirming that the traffic enforcement action was legitimate. Despite this, Mr. Williams has not produced any evidence to justify his claim.
Reaffirming its institutional values, the SLRSA said it takes issues of integrity, accountability, and professionalism very seriously. The Authority maintains a zero-tolerance policy on corruption and has robust internal mechanisms to investigate any credible report of misconduct by its personnel.
However, the statement cautioned that unverified public allegations could undermine confidence in the authority and damage the reputation of its officers. “The post made by Mr. Williams has the propensity to cause reputational harm to the SLRSA,” the statement read.
The Authority therefore called on Mr. Yada Hashim Williams to withdraw his unsubstantiated media post and refrain from making further unverified claims that could mislead the public.
