The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has announced the enforcement of a no-street parking policy along the busy Lumley and Aberdeen beach areas, effective immediately.
The move, outlined in a press release issued on December 19, 2025, aims to ease traffic flow, improve road safety, and prevent unnecessary obstructions in these high-traffic zones.
The SLRSA clarified that both street and haphazard parking are now strictly prohibited along the Lumley and Aberdeen beach corridors, in line with Regulation 87 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2011.
The new policy is notably part of an ongoing efforts to maintain smooth traffic movement, especially in these popular recreational areas, which experience significant congestion, particularly on weekends and public holidays.
To help manage this transition, the SLRSA has collaborated with the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and the Joint Traffic Management Team to designate specific parking areas for the public.
Motorists are urged to park only in the approved locations, which include CSE by Family Kingdom, Papa Clef, Gigibonta, the Car Wash by Chapter One, and Kallon Car Park. Law enforcement officers have been deployed to these areas to ensure security and facilitate the orderly parking of vehicles.
In addition to the new parking rules, the SLRSA has warned that regular patrols by a towing team will be carried out throughout the Lumley and Aberdeen beach areas. Vehicles found parked in violation of the no-parking directive or those causing obstruction will be towed to maintain road safety and traffic order.
The SLRSA has called for the full cooperation of the public in adhering to the new parking regulations, emphasizing that the enforcement of this policy is essential for ensuring safety, preventing traffic jams, and improving overall convenience for everyone using the area.
The authority also reassured the public that these measures are aimed at enhancing the overall experience for both locals and visitors to the beach areas. The SLRSA encouraged everyone to stay informed by visiting their official website or contacting the authority for further details.
