During a strategic meeting organized by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education (MoICE) in Port Loko, the Deputy Statistician-General of Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL), Lansana Kpewolo Kanneh, delivered a detailed update to residents of Port Loko District on the preparations and progress for the upcoming 2026 Decennial Population and Housing Census.
The meeting was attended by esteemed government officials, local and traditional authorities, including the Mayor of the Port Loko City Council, Alieu Badara Tarawally, and the Chairman of the Port Loko District Council, Sheku Tejan Saccoh. Representatives from various sectors such as security, youth groups, market women, bike riders, motor drivers unions, university students, and school pupils were also present.
Deputy Statistician-General Lansana Kpewolo Kanneh highlighted the significant milestones achieved in preparation for the 2026 Decennial Population and Housing Census, which included the establishment of the census secretariat, formation of working committees, recruitment of the Chief Technical Adviser and Cartographic Consultant by UNFPA, and the initiation of the recruitment process for temporary positions.
Mr. Kanneh underscored the importance of active participation from the community at every stage of the census process, emphasizing that their involvement is crucial for informing national development, resource allocation, and decision-making. He reiterated Stats SL’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that the 2026 census is inclusive and community-focused.
Attendees were encouraged to engage in dialogue, ask questions, and provide feedback on the census process, fostering an interactive and informative session.
