A coordinated operation by the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) has resulted in the arrest of two individuals suspected of drug trafficking at the Mile 38 Checkpoint.

The operation was led by Superintendent Foday Sorie Fofanah on Tuesday, 17 February 2026.

The suspects, identified as Osman Kamara, reportedly affiliated with IMATT, Freetown, and Idrissa Aruna, a resident of Lagor, Korrie Chiefdom, Moyamba District, were intercepted in a vehicle during routine checkpoint inspections.

A detailed search of the vehicle uncovered a quantity of drugs suspected to be tramadol, which were concealed in the vehicle’s bonnet, according to security sources.

Both suspects have been taken into custody and, along with the recovered drugs, transferred to the Transnational Organised Crime Unit Headquarters for further investigation and processing.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to tackling drug trafficking and other forms of transnational crime, highlighting the importance of joint operations between law enforcement and military personnel to safeguard communities and national security.

The investigation remains ongoing as the TOCU works to establish the source and intended distribution of the seized substances.
