Security forces stationed at the Bandama/Wanjama Checkpoint in the early hours of Saturday intercepted a fuel tanker allegedly transporting a substantial quantity of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa.
The tanker, bearing registration number AKJ 785, was driven by Joseph Kanneh of 4 Nyamui Street, Kenema. According to police sources, the discovery occurred around 2:50 a.m. during a routine inspection.
During preliminary questioning, Kanneh reportedly claimed that the illicit cargo was loaded by an unidentified passenger who boarded the tanker between Mile 91 and Moyamba Junction. The individual is currently at large.
The case has been transferred to Kenema Police Station for further investigation, and authorities have launched a manhunt to apprehend the fugitive believed to be involved in the suspected drug trafficking operation.
