The Tonkolili Network Movement for Families Empowerment Organization (TNMFEO), a community-based non-political organization, has penned a letter to President Julius Maada Bio, expressing deep concern and appealing for the reinstatement of Ahmed Saybom Kanu and Mohamed Orman Bangura, two officials recently removed from their positions.

The TNMFEO, representing a coalition of district stakeholders, SLPP grassroots members, and local leaders, conveyed their “shocking and saddest moment” following the dismissal of Kanu, Managing Director of the National Shipping Company and SLPP District Chairman, and Bangura, former Minister of Youth Affairs.

While acknowledging and condemning the two officials’ conduct during the recent lower-level elections, the TNMFEO argued that alternative disciplinary actions could have been taken instead of outright dismissal. They emphasized the officials’ significant contributions to the district, describing them as “the only hope for the district.”

“We were expecting the commander in chief His Excellency to would have taken another leadership actions to quire the two leaders… instead of relieving them from servicing the country as a whole,” the letter stated.

The letter highlighted the officials’ instrumental role in advancing the interests of SLPP grassroots supporters and the broader Tonkolili community, which, according to the group, has suffered from neglect in terms of development, education, infrastructure, and governance inclusion.

“This abrupt change has left many of us concerned about the future direction of our district,” the letter expressed, emphasizing the officials’ “unmatched” contributions.

While the President’s office did not officially state the reasons for the dismissal, speculation points to tensions surrounding the recent SLPP lower-level elections in Tonkolili.

The TNMFEO respectfully apologized to President Bio and urged him to reinstate Kanu and Bangura to their former positions or assign them new roles within his administration. They believe this action would enable Tonkolili District to continue its progress in development and governance inclusion.
