The Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Tunis on Friday 15th September 2023, paid a courtesy visit to Paramount Chief Bai Kompa Bomboli III of Masiaka.

The purpose of the visito createeating partnerships with the community for the preservation of the reported Portuguese Slave Fort in Rotumba Village, Koya Chiefdom, Port Loko District.

It could be recalled that the Minister and her team recently spot-checked the reported Portuguese slave Fort in Rotumba Village that falls under the purview of the Paramount Chief. The Ministry erected a plaque for the preservation of the relics through engagements with stakeholders of Rotumba Village.

The Minister thanked the Paramount Chief for the role played during the 2022 edition of the Budapest-Bamako Freetown Rally. She remarked that they were there to forge a partnership with the community people going forward and also to encourage the Paramount Chief to preserve other potential heritage and touristic sites within Koya Chiefdom. She revealed that the Ministry will declare the relics at Rotumba Village a National Heritage site.

PC Bomboli III of Masiaka welcomed the Minister and team to the chiefdom. He agreed to partner with the Ministry to preserve Rotumba and other heritage sites in the chiefdom, hence it will increase domestic tourism and add value to Koya chiefdom.

The Minister was accompanied by the Director of Culture, Foday Jalloh, the Administrative Manager of the Monument and Relics Commission (MRC), Ann-Marie Kamara, staff of the Ministry and MRC, and representatives from the History Department at Fourah Bay College.
