At a Town Hall meeting organized by the government of Sierra Leone, the Inspector General of Police confirmed that over the weekend, law enforcement intercepted two containers at the Queen Elizabeth II Quay containing substances used for Kush.

IG Sellu disclosed that one Umaru Kargbo, currently residing in Holland, was linked to the 40ft container shipment. Furthermore, seven individuals who attempted to receive the container were apprehended and are presently in police custody, aiding authorities in their ongoing investigations.

According to reports, the Sea Cooperation Project (SEACOP) team, comprising various enforcement agencies including Customs, the Anti-Corruption Commission, and the Sierra Leone Police, executed a thorough inspection of two containers at the Queen.

The 7 suspects who were apprehended are said to be currently aiding authorities in their investigations.

In addition, the Vice President, in his capacity as the Chairman of the Police Council, made strong remarks during the Town Hall meeting on Kush organized by The Ministry of Information and Civic Education in Freetown. He emphasized that anyone arrested in connection to Kush must not be granted bail.

“Over the weekend, we intercepted two containers and 7 people are in custody. They will never see sunlight, they will be charged and will be sentenced, and no amount of lawyer will take them out from where they are,” he stated firmly.

Furthermore, the Vice President announced that two Magistrates have been specifically assigned to handle Kush-related cases, underlining the government’s commitment to addressing the issue with urgency and severity.
