A 25-year-old man identified as Idrissa, a resident of Hastings on the outskirts of Freetown, has reportedly died after an apparent suicide, shortly after he was deported from the United States to Sierra Leone.
According to report, Idrissa had lived in the United States for several years before his recent deportation. Report further states that his return to Sierra Leone was difficult, and that he struggled to adjust to life after being forced to leave the country where he had spent much of his adult life.
Following his arrival, Idrissa reportedly became withdrawn and showed signs of deep emotional distress. During this period, it was revealed that he became involved in drug use, including kush, which is believed worsened his condition and contributed to his rapid decline.
Reportedly, efforts were made to support and rehabilitate him, but his addiction and mental state made it difficult for him to recover. “We tried to help him in every way we could, but things kept getting worse,” the source said.
Idrissa was later found dead at his residence in Hastings. Report says the incident has shocked the neighborhood, especially given his past reputation as someone who supported and encouraged young people in his community.
As of the time of reporting, police authorities had not released an official statement on the incident. The circumstances surrounding his death are based on accounts from reliable report.
