Prominent Sierra Leonean journalist Umaru Fofana has issued a public caution to newly appointed officials in President Julius Maada Bio’s administration, emphasizing the transient nature of political power and the importance of serving the masses.
In a statement shared on social media, Fofana reminded the appointees that their roles are fundamentally rooted in public service, urging them to prioritize humility and dedication. He highlighted the cyclical nature of political appointments, where individuals who once wielded power often find themselves on the side-lines.
“Political appointment or power is ephemeral. When you have it, pay attention to the masses, serve them well, and be humble. You’re sure to lose it someday,” Fofana wrote.
The journalist also reflected on the reversal of fortunes in politics, noting that those who once celebrated their positions are now experiencing frustration. “The revolving door has moved again. Those who were exuberant some time ago, are now exasperated. Those whose teeth we could count are now gnashing those teeth,” he added.
Fofana concluded his message with a call to action for the new appointees, wishing them success and encouraging them to remember their responsibilities to the public. “Good luck to the new appointees. May they realize that it’s for public service,” he said.
The remarks come amid recent changes in President Bio’s government, sparking conversations about leadership accountability and the role of public officials in addressing the needs of the people.
