BBC correspondent in Sierra Leone, Umaru Fofana has joined Sierra Leoneans to mourn the death of Emadu Rogers, a student of Fourah Bay College who died a day before their graduation ceremony on Friday.

It was reported that the deceased died in a car accident while returning from a pre photo shoot at Model Junction in Freetown.

The deceased, Emadu Rogers was supposed to graduated with a degree in Political Science.

The sudden death of Emadu Rogers left so many students and Sierra Leoneans in shock, including Umaru Fofana.

Umaru Fofana writes that;
“Dear Emadu Rogers,

I never met you. Unfortunately I never will. But I bemoan your tragic passing.

Your death by road accident today – on the eve of your graduation – has left me devastated. What is this life!? Why do we hate!!

I am absolutely gutted! There’s widespread indignation in the country! You could have been my son or younger brother or nephew or cousin. I’m shaken by shock.

I’ve gone through your recent social media posts – what a determined young man you were! I’ve seen your photos – what a bubbly fella we’ve lost.

Your friends and colleagues must have been truly devastated and shocked. Having lined up your graduation regalia, with your family in town to celebrate with you, the graduation now has to be posthumous.

Crushed to death as you returned from a friend’s own graduation. Thinking how yours would be tomorrow. Little did it cross your mind that would be the last such event you’d be at.

Only faith stops one from questioning God in such situations. But it is well. I pray a special mention is made of you at the convocation and a moment of silence observed.

May God console your family and friends.

Rest In Peace, Rogie!”
