On February 14, 2024, International Condom Day was commemorated with proactive efforts in Bo, Sierra Leone, as the UNFPA Sierra Leone team, alongside the National AIDS Secretariat, UNAIDS_SL, and other partners, came together to distribute condoms and advocate for safe sex practices.

With the overarching goal of combating the spread of HIV/AIDS and promoting sexual health, these organizations undertook a collaborative initiative to raise awareness about the crucial role of condoms in preventing sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unplanned pregnancies.

In a concerted effort to empower individuals with knowledge and resources for responsible sexual behavior, the distribution of condoms served as a tangible means to promote safer intercourse practices within the community. By making condoms readily accessible, the initiative aimed to remove barriers to their use and encourage individuals to prioritize their health and well-being.

Speaking on behalf of UNFPA Sierra Leone, representatives emphasized the significance of embracing condom use as a cornerstone of promoting a healthier future. Recognizing the vital role that condoms play in safeguarding sexual health, the message resonated with the broader global call to prioritize preventive measures in the fight against HIV/AIDS and other STIs.

Throughout the day, various educational activities were organized to engage community members and foster open dialogue surrounding sexual health topics. From interactive workshops to informative sessions led by healthcare professionals, the event provided a platform for individuals to learn about the importance of consistent and correct condom usage.

As International Condom Day served as a reminder of the ongoing need for comprehensive sexual health education and access to contraceptives, the collaborative efforts in Bo underscored the commitment of local and international stakeholders to address pressing public health challenges. By promoting condom use and advocating for safer sexual practices, communities were empowered to take proactive steps towards achieving healthier outcomes for all individuals.
