The United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, has refuted speculations that the US is advocating for a rerun of the 2023 presidential elections in Sierra Leone.
Her comments came during a press briefing on Wednesday following a visit to the West African nations of Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.
Last week, the US government announced a $1.5 million commitment to support Sierra Leone’s electoral reform processes. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield clarified that this funding aims to “provide the technical and legal assistance needed to strengthen democracy in Sierra Leone” and enhance public engagement in future elections.
However, the announcement sparked speculation that the US was pushing for a rerun of the June 24th presidential election, which saw Julius Maada Bio re-elected. Addressing these concerns directly, Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield stated, “I’m not aware of that… there are no plans for an election, and certainly we have not called for that.”
Instead, she emphasized that the $1.5 million grant will “assist Sierra Leone in developing their own plans for how they will conduct elections in the future.” This implies a focus on long-term improvements to Sierra Leone’s electoral system, rather than interference in the recent election results.

A rerun is all we want,we say no to election Malpractice and rampant human rights abuses
Who started election malpractice in Sierra Leone? Is APC which volded 250000 votes from Kailahun by CEC Madam C.Thorpe who is a strong member in APC .
The opposition APC will suffer another blow if there be a rerun of any election. Simple apc/ppp have made the southeast as enemy zone and southerners are no fools to vote for APC and President Bio will just win again and again.

If you can redirect your energy towards self-improvement and building bridges with the groups you currently despise, it will be more beneficial for you. You don’t have to concern yourself with the ethnicity or political affiliation of the president.

It’s easier to say than to do the deed All the opposition people hate the current President but I advise you to exercise small patience till 2028 election where in you vote in the best person of interest.
