The Master and Registrar of the Supreme Court of Sierra Leone Lansana Kortor Kamara had confirmed that the banning of vehicular movement on Election Day is illegal and unconstitutional.
Mr. Kamara made this statement to members of the Multi Stakeholders Election Steering Committee after the question of vehicular movement on election day was raised by Civil Society Organizations present.
He continued that the Office of National Security (ONS) will have to look into the Supreme Court ruling if they want to make any decision on whether to ban vehicular movement on Election Day.
He disclosed that the matter of banning vehicular movement on Election Day was taken to the Supreme Court by Lawyer Sorie Sengbeh Marah in 2019 for interpretation adding that the matter was between Lawyer Sorie Sengbeh Marah, Inspector General of Police, and the Attorney General and Minister of Justice.
Responding to Mr. Kamara, the National Security Coordinator of ONS Abdulai Coker stated that they will be looking and later informed the General Master and Registrar of the Supreme Court and the public about their decision.
