Reports have surfaced indicating that a violent altercation has occurred during the Ordinary Congress of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA). The incident took place at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Freetown. Further details about the circumstances and individuals involved are still unfolding.
Videos depicting the recent violence have been circulating widely on social media. David Turner, the Personal Assistant to the President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), was reportedly attacked and sustained facial injuries during the incident. There are allegations suggesting that some senior members of the Babadi Kamara camp may have been involved in instigating the violence and the attack on Turner.
Babadi Kamara, the Chairman of Bo Rangers Football Club, is the main contender against the incumbent Thomas Daddy Brima for the SLFA Presidency. The two camps have seen a no-love-lost relationship in the past months with things being intensified on Thursday when news broke out that the SLFA President was being detained at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on corruption allegations.
Hours after the news broke out, almost all participating football clubs in the Sierra Leone Premier League threatened to halt their participation until the release of the President.
The atmosphere at the SLFA Secretariat is currently tense, even with the presence of security forces on-site.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned for more updates.
