Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, His Excellency Wang Qing, presented cutting-edge digital forensic laboratory equipment to the Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu. The handover ceremony took place at the Chinese Embassy in Freetown on Thursday, November 16, 2023.

The donated equipment, a testament to the enduring friendship between China and Sierra Leone, aims to strengthen the Sierra Leone Police’s (SLP) capacity in combating crime. Ambassador Wang Qing lauded the historical cooperation between the two nations, emphasizing the mutual benefits derived from their longstanding relationship. He commended the SLP for ensuring security, particularly during the recently concluded elections.

Expressing optimism about the impact of the forensic laboratory, Ambassador Wang Qing highlighted its role in enhancing investigations, especially in addressing the societal challenge of drug abuse. He pledged ongoing support, announcing forthcoming training sessions in Sierra Leone on the equipment’s utilization. Additionally, the Chinese Government will provide software and hardware kits to further bolster the laboratory’s capabilities.

Recalling the recent study tour of twenty-five SLP personnel at Shandong Police College, Ambassador Wang Qing underscored China’s commitment to fortifying the SLP against evolving crime challenges in Sierra Leone. In response, Inspector General William Fayia Sellu expressed gratitude for China’s various interventions, including the construction of Police Headquarters, funding for the Freetown-East Regional Headquarters at Ross Road, and educational opportunities for police personnel.

The IGP assured the Chinese Embassy of the SLP’s unwavering support and designated them as a strategic partner. He affirmed the organization’s commitment to future collaboration and expressed anticipation for a strengthened relationship with the Chinese Embassy to enhance the Sierra Leone Police’s effectiveness and efficiency in maintaining law and order.
