Lawyer Charles Margai, the lead counsel for the elected Vice-President, Alhaji Chief Sumana in the land mark constitutional matter between him and the Attorney General on one hand and the appointed Vice President on the other hand, has expressed optimism that his client will win the case.
While updating journalists on the case in Freetown yesterday, the legal luminary said based on evidence and the arguments before and during the proceedings, he is certain that his client will get the justice he deserves as the judgment that would be delivered anytime from now would be in Chief Sam Susana’s favour.
Mr. Margai said before he took over the matter, his client, had already employed the services of two prominent Nigerian lawyers to pursue the case at the ECOWAS Court in Abuja. But, he explained that on taking over, he advised VP Sam Sumana to exercise patient as he was confident that the outcome of this case will be very positive.
He said however that if the ruling to be delivered by the Supreme Court runs contrary to his expectation, the matter, he said will be pursued at the ECOWAS Court and that the Nigerian lawyers will take over the case at that level.
It can be recalled that President Ernest Bai Koroma in March this year ‘relieved’ the elected Vice President, Sam Sumana of his duties and replaced him with the former Sierra Leone Ambassador to China, Victor Foh thus sparking the biggest constitutional row in the country’s history.
President Koroma’s action which has been roundly condemned around the world as ‘unconstitutional and unlawful’ was instantly challenged in court by VP Sam Sumana and the opposition parties, the SLPP and PMDC.
