Her Worship Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, Mayor of Freetown participated in the World Water Forum that is hosted in Dakar, Senegal.

Her Worship left the shores of Freetown on Sunday 20th March, 2020 along with Councillor Sheku M’Bompa Turay of Ward 416, Alfred Akibo-Betts from The Betts Firm and others for Senegal. She spoke on global climate and water crisis.

World Water Forum started today 22nd March and it will end on 27th March 2022 in Dakar, Senegal. Her Worship joined other participants from all the horizon, including political and economic decision-makers, multilateral institutions, academia, civil society and the private sector. for the 9th World Water Forum.

This year’s 9th World Water Forum; seek to identify, promote and implement concrete responses and actions for water and sanitation in an integrated way through an innovative framework.

As a key participate, Her Worship other world leaders to speak on water crisis, climate crisis and the solutions.

“In #Dakar at the 9th World Water Forum. Today I spoke about the close relationship between the global #ClimateCrisis and the global #WaterCrisis. Solutions must be multi-sectoral, holistic, gender-sensitive and must ensure that climate adaptation financing is available at the #LocalLevel.  

#FreetownTheTreeTown by planting 1m trees is designed to protect important water catchments in and around Freetown. Excessive deforestation is destroying these water sources and must be stopped. It takes years for trees to grow and minutes to cut them down. Protected forests in the Western Area must be protected, not sold for housing or soon there will be no water for any of us.
