Mohamed Pope Kamara, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All People’s Congress (APC), has strongly criticized the state of Sierra Leone’s education system, health sector, and economy under the current administration.
“Our education standards have fallen! Hunger and starvation are ravaging our beloved land,” Kamara declared, expressing concerns over what he described as a deteriorating situation in the country’s educational sector.
Addressing the health sector, Kamara highlighted significant challenges, citing inadequate medical facilities and a lack of essential resources.
“Hospitals lack basic machines, not to mention essential medicines, electricity, and equipment,” he said, emphasizing the insufficiency of healthcare services in the country.
Kamara further raised concerns about the rising crime rate, describing it as alarming. He also noted the financial struggles of civil servants, claiming that salaries are frequently delayed.
“Crime is on the rise; the wage bill is bloated. Salaries of civil servants are not paid on time, let alone subsidies,” he asserted.
He also criticized the Tomabome rice project, labeling it a failed initiative. “The Tomabome rice project is a scam and another white elephant. Our economy is in the hands of racketeers, barely surviving,” he stated.
The APC official accused the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) of focusing on political distractions instead of addressing the pressing needs of the citizens. He referenced the controversy surrounding the position formerly held by former First Lady Sia Nyama Koroma, stating that it was unnecessary political noise.
“We are still waiting for the extradition of the drug lord who is enjoying life around the first family. We are concerned about saving the nation from this global reputational damage that Sierra Leoneans are experiencing,” he said.
Kamara concluded by expressing hope for change. “These are sad days, but redemption will soon be here.”
