The opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has threatened to take legal action against Alfred Peter Conteh for what the party describes as a “dishonest misrepresentation” of its leadership structure.
Speaking on AYV’s Good Morning Salone program, APC National Publicity Secretary Sidi Yayah Tunis dismissed Conteh’s continued claim of chairmanship of the Interim Transitional Governance Committee (ITGC).
“In the first place, we have no group or community called ITGC anymore in the APC,” Tunis declared. He explained that the ITGC was a temporary body created by the High Court of Sierra Leone with a specific mandate to oversee the party’s affairs until internal elections were concluded.
That mandate, he stressed, ended in 2023 when the party successfully held its lower-level elections and National Delegates Conference under the supervision of the court-appointed Interim Independent Elections Management Committee (IIEMC).
Tunis recounted that the ITGC was only established after the courts nullified the APC executive elected in 2017, ruling it illegitimate. However, following the 2023 national delegates’ conference, a new executive was duly elected, presented to the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC), and subsequently accepted by the courts.
“So for Alfred Peter Conteh to be parading himself as ITGC chairman when that mandate has long ended in 2023 is a dishonest misrepresentation,” Tunis said. “We no longer have an ITGC in the APC. We have a full executive in place.”
He warned that if Conteh persists in styling himself as ITGC chairman, the party will be left with no option but to institute legal action.
“There is no faction in the APC called ITGC. We have the APC and its legitimate executive,” Tunis affirmed.
