In a press release dated November 20, 2024, Comrade Bai Mahmoud Bangura, the National Organising Secretary of the All Peoples Congress (APC) party, has officially declared his intention to resume his role.
This comes after his exoneration by the High Court of Sierra Leone and recovery from significant health challenges.
In a letter addressed to Comrade Lansana Dumbuya Esq., the APC National Secretary General, Bai Mahmoud expressed his gratitude for the judicial outcome and detailed his readiness to return to active duty.
Bai Mahmoud highlighted the adversity he faced over the past year, stating:
“On November 29, 2023, I was arrested in connection with the investigation into the failed coup attempt of November 26, 2023. During this challenging period, I endured an extensive investigative process, faced charges of treason and other allegations, all while grappling with serious medical challenges and undergoing a trial.”
He further explained that Justice Komba Kamanda of the High Court had fully cleared him of all charges, marking the end of a rigorous legal battle. Additionally, he confirmed his full recovery from previous health issues, paving the way for his return to party leadership.
Bai Mahmoud announced his official return to duties as National Organising Secretary, scheduled for Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 11:00 AM. He expressed optimism about contributing to the party’s progress, stating:
“I am optimistic that my return will bring renewed vigor and added value to the effective functioning of the Secretariat as we work together toward strengthening and unifying our great party to face future challenges.”
Bai Mahmoud’s return is seen as a pivotal moment for the APC, as the party seeks to fortify its leadership and address upcoming political challenges.
