The Council of Churches in Sierra Leone (CCSL) has urged citizens to refrain from violence as the country edge towards elections.
“Let us all as citizens of our country Sierra Leone participate ‘Saful one’ in the election, June 24, 2023,” CCSL said.
The Church Council cited that there were in the registration process.
They said that chief among them was the lack of understanding from voters of the Proportional Representation System (PRS).
“The lateness of employing the PRS gave rise to insufficient time to civic and voter education,” the Council said.
CCSL, however, commended the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) for navigating through them.
The Council also said they will be among observers in this year’s elections with support from German organisation, Bread for the World (BftW).
Sierra Leone will head to the polls on Saturday in a multitier election.
Political tension is already high between the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) and Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).
On Wednesday, there was a clash between police and APC supporters with one protester reported dead.
