During the recent town hall meeting at Bintumani President Bio articulated his vision of empowering the youth to assume leadership roles within the SLPP and the broader governance landscape following the end of his tenure.
This strategic shift is exemplified in his current cabinet composition, where young individuals hold key positions such as foreign affairs and information.
The appointment of capable and experienced young leaders is a strategic decision to ensure the party’s longevity and success, especially amid challenging political landscapes.
However, President Bio’s deliberate move to transition from the old guard to the new guard has sparked discussions within the SLPP, with some expressing concerns about the prominence of relatively inexperienced appointees overshadowing established party figures.
Critics argue that individuals like Chernoh Bah, Timothy Kabba, David Sengeh, and Ben Kelfala lack a deep-rooted understanding of SLPP’s history and Sierra Leonean political intricacies, potentially compromising the party’s competitive edge in future elections.
Notably absent from the current inner circle are seasoned stalwarts like John Benjamin, J.J. Saffa, Lahai Lawrence Leema, and others, Alpha Timbo, Alpha Wurie, Musa Tarawally, Alie Kabba, Bernadette Lahai, Sidi Mohamed Tunis, Hon Rado Yokie etc who have historically played significant roles in the party’s trajectory.
The sidelining of these influential figures in favour of newcomers has raised suspicions of a calculated strategy on President Bio’s part, with speculations of a potential sell-out to the APC party in 2028.
Amidst these developments, rumours suggest that President Bio is grooming his Chief Minister David Sengeh and even the First Lady, Madam Fatima Bio, as potential successors.
Such moves have fueled opposition within the SLPP, with notable figures like Alie Kabba mobilizing support to challenge the leadership.
The emergence of opposition movements, such as the Alie Kabba Movement spearheaded by prominent figures, like J. J Blood, and JOB signals a growing dissent within the party ranks.
Those familiar with Alie Kabba’s background recognize him as a formidable individual whom even President Bio would be ill-advised to underestimate.
Alie Kabba, known for his formidable reputation, would pose a significant challenge to President Bio when the time comes for him
to choose his successor, hence underscoring the intricate dynamics at play within the SLPP.
Also at play, there is growing momentum for Musa Tarawally to assume the leadership of the SLPP, indicating that the forthcoming succession battle to replace President Bio will likely be one of the most contentious and bloody in the history of the grand old party of Sierra Leone.
As it stands the future landscape of SLPP politics remains uncertain and complex
Interesting days ahead
Until then stay tuned
Lahai was basically kicked out of his job by Bio, why would you now expect him to be in the fore front of the party? More importantly, he is a very dangerous person. May he continue to languish outside politics.
President Bio is changing the dynamics of S.L.P.P.
He is genuinely wishing for youth to become his successor God willing. Pushing away big figures like J.O.B, J.J.S Saffa Ngor Munda, Leema etc etc was a very big big mistake no matter what they “might” ve done to him (H.E Bio), he could ve find another way to punish them for their “professional misconduct”.
But be may as it’s, he did it for reason or reasons best known to him. He should ve put them in a very dormant positions other than sacking them entirely.
How can you sight Lahai, as dangerous person ? Anyway, you are judging him base on malice ….
His Excellency is reminding us of Former president Albert Margai by removing old folks and replacing them with intelligent and capable youth politicians……… LONG LIVE MAMA SALONE
