The National Grand Coalition (NGC) has reaffirmed its alliance with the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) ahead of its upcoming National Delegate Conference in December, where the future of the coalition will be determined.

This was disclosed by the party’s acting chairman, Alhaji Amadu Sheriff, during a press conference held at the NGC headquarters on Naimbana Street, Freetown, on October 14, 2024.

Sheriff emphasized that the NGC remains an independent political party with the right to enter into coalitions with other parties.

He dismissed rumors suggesting that the party had already decided to leave the alliance, stating that no individual has the authority to mislead the public on this matter.

“The NGC has not opted out of the alliance, and no one should spread false information regarding our position,” Sheriff asserted.

Looking ahead to the party’s delegate conference in December, Sheriff promised to present the benefits that the NGC has gained from its partnership with the SLPP.

He urged party members to remain peaceful and united, reminding them that the NGC is a “third force” in Sierra Leonean politics with ambitions of gaining power.

Sheriff also addressed internal party issues, notably the suspension of Mr. Suma, the former acting chairman, citing “misinformation and disorderly behavior.”

He provided evidence of Suma’s actions, including making inflammatory statements on AYV TV and spreading distorted information, which led to his suspension. Sheriff called on Suma to publicly apologize to the party’s National Executive members, warning that failure to do so would result in a formal expulsion from the party, as outlined in the NGC’s constitution under section 52, subsection 2, paragraph [a].

“The NGC is guided by the rule of law and constitutional values, and no one is above the party,” Sheriff said. He further emphasized that all members are equal under the party’s constitution, which operates without favoritism or hierarchy.

The acting chairman reiterated the party’s mission to restore discipline, accountability, and productivity across all sectors of society and urged members to remain focused on achieving these goals.

Sheriff concluded by calling for unity within the party and cautioning against internal conflicts that could damage the NGC’s reputation.

He stressed that disagreements should be resolved constructively and should not be used to destroy the party’s foundation. “We must avoid hate and division, and instead work together to uphold the integrity of the party,” he said.
