Real Madrid defender Antonio Rüdiger arrived in Sierra Leone today for a private visit that has captured the attention of football fans nationwide.
The Sierra Leonean‑German star paid a courtesy call to Babadi Kamara, President of the Sierra Leone Football Association, presenting his official jersey as a sign of respect, goodwill, and solidarity with the local football community a gesture warmly received by officials and supporters alike.
Rüdiger’s connection to Sierra Leone runs deep: he first visited the country in January 2022, when he launched the Antonio Rüdiger Foundation and was named Global Brand Ambassador for Sierra Leone Football, an honor recognizing his commitment to supporting young talent and promoting the sport at grassroots levels.
Tomorrow, he is scheduled to travel to Kono District, the region where his family’s roots trace back, to meet with local communities and inspire aspiring athletes.
Sierra Leone has welcomed other international football figures over the years. In 2015, Cameroonian legend Samuel Eto’o visited as part of a FIFA delegation to support the FIFA 11 for Health initiative and engage with local youth through football and health education programmes.
