The 2024 Sierra Leone FA Cup Final descended into violence on Saturday, forcing the match to be abandoned.

Sierraloaded reports that the game was nearing the halfway point of the second half when a thrown stone from the stands struck East End Lions defender Abdul Nymekye, leaving him with a bloody face.

This incident followed earlier reports of clashes between supporters of both teams. Unidentified hooligans reportedly targeted Bo Rangers FC Chairman Babadi Kamara with stones during the match.

Even before kickoff, tensions were high, with skirmishes erupting as FA President Thomas Brima delivered his pre-match speech. Stones were thrown from opposing sides of the stands, leading to police intervention with teargas and reports of injuries.

With the safety of players and fans compromised, the match officials were left with no choice but to abandon the FA Cup Final.

The Sierra Leone Football Association is yet to issue a statement on the incident and how to proceed with the competition.
