Following an intense battle for supremacy in the Division One Playoff organized by the Sierra Leone Football Association, Kamboi Eagles and Star Sport Academy have earned their spots in the upcoming season of the Sierra Leone Premier League.
Last year, both teams did not get a spot at the big level with Kamboi Eagles relegated to Division One but this time made an astonishing return to the league.
Kamboi Eagles secured their promotion with a commanding 3-1 victory over Masoya FC with goals from Frank Alison, Tejan Loco Jalloh, and Alusine Sharka ensured Kamboi Eagles providing a comeback of the Eagles to the Premier League after a year’s absence.
The return is celebrated not only in Kenema and the Eastern Region but across the nation, as Kamboi Eagles remain a storied name in Sierra Leonean football.
Star Sport on the other hand narrowly emerged Victorious in a 1-0 win against Abacha City. This result solidified their place in the Premier League for the next season.
Despite the loss to the Eagles and Star Sport, Masoya FC and Abacha City will both face each other on the 31st of August 2024 for the remaining position to the Sierra Leone Premier League. The winner of this match will complete the trio of newly promoted teams for the upcoming season.
Kamboi Eagles and Star Sport Academy however are set to compete in the grand finale of the Division One playoffs.
The president of the Sierra Leone Football Association, Thomas Daddy Brima, expanded his congratulations to both Kamboi Eagles and Star Sports Academy.
He praised their achievement and reflected on the dedication and perseverance both teams have demonstrated. He expressed how his Executive Board warmly welcomes them to Sierra Leone’s elite league and now looks forward to seeing whether Abacha City or Masoya FC will also join the Premier League.
Congratulations to both teams
