Sierra Leone international goalkeeper Francis Koroma made his preseason debut for Katsina United as the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) side began its preparations for the 2026/27 season with a 1-1 draw against Wikki Tourists at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium.
Koroma, 26, popularly known as “Tortoise,” was among 11 new signings unveiled by Katsina United on July 30 as the club strengthens its squad ahead of the new NPFL campaign.
Katsina United chairman Surajo Malumfashi expressed confidence in the new recruits, saying they would contribute to improving the team’s performance.
The match remained goalless in the first half, with Katsina United dominating possession and creating several opportunities.
Mubarak Shahada eventually broke the deadlock for Katsina United and was later named Man of the Match.
Wikki Tourists responded in the 55th minute through former Katsina United forward Promise Damala, who scored against his former club to level the contest and secure a 1-1 draw.
Koroma joined Katsina United from Sierra Leonean club Wilberforce Strikers, having previously played for East End Lions before moving to Wilberforce Strikers in 2023.
The goalkeeper has made six appearances for the Sierra Leone national team, including matches in Africa Cup of Nations and FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The preseason fixture forms part of Katsina United’s preparations for the upcoming 2026/27 NPFL season.
