The Leone Rock Premier League 2024/2025 season has been thrown into immediate uncertainty following a dramatic announcement by the Union of Premier League Clubs (UPLC-SL).
In a press release issued yesterday, Thursday, April 3rd, 2025, the UPLC-SL declared an immediate suspension of their participation in the league.
This drastic decision comes in direct response to the arrest and detention of Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) President, Thomas Daddy Brima, the Acting General Secretary, and the Finance Manager. The trio were reportedly taken into custody on allegations of corruption by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The UPLC-SL, in their statement signed by Director of Communications Benjamin Gordon Esq., unequivocally stated their solidarity with the detained SLFA officials. The timing of the arrests is particularly significant, coinciding with the SLFA’s scheduled Ordinary Congress on April 4th and 5th, 2025. The Union emphasized that the SLFA was “fully prepared” to hold this crucial meeting.
The press release also included a direct appeal to the global football governing bodies, FIFA, CAF (Confederation of African Football), and WAFU (West African Football Union), urging them to “take note and monitor the situation” unfolding in Sierra Leonean football.
Meanwhile, sources indicate that SLFA President Thomas Daddy Brima is currently being held at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Freetown. While official details regarding the specific charges and circumstances of his arrest remain undisclosed, the development has sent shockwaves through the nation’s football fraternity and beyond.
