Coach Amidu Fofanah has been dismissed from his position as the head coach of Luawa FC shortly after the team’s 1-0 loss to Mighty Blackpool FC on the evening of May 27, 2023, at Angola field in Freetown.
This defeat against Mighty Blackpool FC marked the eleventh loss for Luawa Football Club in the ongoing 2022/23 Sierra Leone Premier League season. It was also their first appearance in the country’s top-tier league.
Fofanah, a License A coach, had only been with the club for eight months since his appointment in October of the previous year. During his tenure, he achieved six wins and ten draws, accumulating a total of 28 points in twenty-seven matches. Presently, the club sits in the 15th position, perilously close to the relegation zone.
Luawa FC earned promotion to the current Sierra Leone Premier League season after finishing as the runner-up in the 2022 National Division One Play-Offs.
The decision to relieve the coach was made in an effort to prevent the team from being relegated. Luawa FC expressed their rationale in a tweet, stating,
“As we strive to maintain our presence in the Premier League, we believe that a new direction, consultation, decisions, and tactics are necessary.”
