Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, the Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), issued a heartfelt apology to the people of Sierra Leone during an appearance on 98.1’s Good Morning Salone programme.
He expressed regret over the Leone Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
“On behalf of the Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Authority, I want to unreservedly apologize to the people of Sierra Leone for the national football team’s inability to secure qualification for the 2025 AFCON,” Abdulai said.
Acknowledging the disappointment felt by fans and stakeholders, Abdulai also took the opportunity to express gratitude to the Government of Sierra Leone, led by President Julius Maada Bio, for its continued financial and moral support to the sports sector.
He further assured the nation that the NSA is committed to taking decisive actions to ensure that the Leone Stars are better prepared for future campaigns, with measures in place to avoid a similar outcome in upcoming competitions.
The apology comes at a time when the country is reflecting on its sports performances and the necessary reforms to enhance the development of football and other sports in Sierra Leone.
