Sierra Leonean Para powerlifter Rugiatu Sankoh, who underwent a lower limb amputation, has accomplished an impressive feat by successfully completing a regional training course in Ghana.

This training session serves as preparation for the highly anticipated All Africa Paralympic Games scheduled for September 2023.

The training course took place in the city of Accra and was jointly organized by the Ghana Paralympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee. It brought together coaches and technical officials from 16 African nations, creating a platform for knowledge sharing and skill enhancement.

For Sankoh, who competes as a powerlifter and has an impairment in her lower limbs, this training opportunity proved to be transformative. She described the experience as a “life-changing moment” for both herself and her fellow athletes.

Expressing her newfound confidence, Sankoh remarked, “I learned a lot from the coaches, and I am now assured that I can compete at the highest level.”

In expressing her gratitude, Sankoh extended her thanks to the Government of Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Sports, the National Sports Authority, the National Olympic Committee, and the President and Executive Members of the National Paralympic Committee.

Their unwavering support has paved the way for her representation of Sierra Leone, and she is determined to make her country proud with her performance at the upcoming Games.

The All Africa Paralympic Games, scheduled to take place in Ghana from September 3rd to 12th, 2023, promises to be a momentous event celebrating the athletic prowess and resilience of Para athletes from across the continent.
