In a remarkable display of talent and promise, Salieu Bah, the Midfielder from Wilberforce Striker, marked his debut for Sierra Leone in Leone Stars 2-1 defeat against Guinea Bissau during the final Group A game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series.
Speaking on his remarkable display, the Sierra Leone Football Association President, Thomas Daddy Brima tweeted that the player has showed class, confidence, and a Joy to watch against Guinea Bissau.
“Sallieu Bah (17) made his debut for the Sierra Leone National Senior Team today and showed class, confidence and pure talent against Guinea Bissau. It was so much joy watching this young lad. The future is indeed bright for him and many of his kind in Sierra Leone”- President Brima tweeted.
The match, orchestrated by head coach John Keister , unfolded in a disappointing fashion as the wild Dogs of Guinea Bissau Defeated Leone Stars 2-1 to wrap- up their AFCON Qualifiers today 11th September, 2023 at Estadio 24 de Setembro , marking the tournament’s penultimate match and the day’s sole fixture.
The electrifying encounter saw Dundee striker Amadou Bakayoko open the scoring for Leone Stars with a precise header in the 6th minute, setting the tone for the Leone Stars ’performance.
With a tough battle from both side, the match ends in a tie during the half time. The outcome of this match holds no bearing on AFCON tournament qualification.
The Leone Stars of Sierra Leone have already been eliminated from contention, whereas the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau solidified their spot in next year’s AFCON this past June with a 1-0 victory against Sao Tome & Principe. With this win, they joined football giants Nigeria in securing a spot for the upcoming championship.
