As Sierra Leone prepares to face defending champions Ivory Coast in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers on Friday in San Pedro, Team Manager Alhaji Umaru Bah expresses optimism despite a challenging start to the campaign. Following a goalless draw with Chad and a narrow 3-2 loss to Zambia, the Leone Stars aim to turn their fortunes around.

In a recent interview, TM Bah acknowledged the support of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) and the government for his appointment, stating, “I am grateful for the opportunity. It is a deserved recognition for my work in football administration.”

With decades of experience in football and a background as a businessman, the team manager is also the owner of Sierra Fisheries, a Division 1 side, and the CEO of Real Republicans. He has previously served as the team manager for the Leone Stars home-based team.

TM Bah is hopeful that Leone Stars can overcome its rocky start, noting that significant investment from the government through the National Sports Authority (NSA) has been made in the squad. He commended the efforts of the SLFA, the technical team, and the players, adding, “The spirit in the camp is very high, and that’s exactly what we need to succeed.”

He emphasized the professionalism of the technical team, which has carefully selected the best players available. “We have the talent to qualify; we just need the right mentality. Despite the challenges, we are very hopeful,” he stated.

The Leone Stars team manager also called on the people of Sierra Leone to rally behind the national team. “The national team needs your support. Regardless of past performances, your backing is crucial for our success,” he urged.

With the return leg set to take place in Liberia on Tuesday, the Leone Stars will be looking to make a statement against a formidable opponent and reignite their campaign for AFCON qualification.
