On November 28, 2024, the Ministry of Sports of Sierra Leone held discussions with a Chinese delegation, led by Ambassador Wang Qing, focusing on the rehabilitation of the National Stadium.

The talks highlighted key developments in the project, which aims to modernize the iconic venue and elevate it to international standards.

Ambassador Wang emphasized China’s commitment to advancing the project, including plans to expand the stadium’s seating capacity to align with global requirements. The proposed enhancements aim to ensure the facility is fit for hosting international events while preserving its historical significance.

Minister of Sports Madam Augusta James-Teima and National Sports Authority Executive Director Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai underlined the project’s importance to Sierra Leone’s national identity and sports development. “This renovation is not just about infrastructure; it represents a renewed opportunity for Sierra Leone to showcase its potential on the global stage,” said Dr. Abdulai.
