Sierra Leone’s Junior Men’s Patriots have advanced to the semi-finals of the U19 Cricket World Cup Africa Division 2 Qualifier in Tanzania after a 6-wicket victory against Malawi.
This win follows their previous victory against Rwanda, where they won by 7 wickets.
In the match against Malawi, Sierra Leone won the toss and chose to bowl first. Their decision paid off as they restricted Malawi to a total of 102 runs. Notably, 15-year-old Sahr Lebbie performed exceptionally, taking 3 wickets while conceding only two runs.
Sierra Leone successfully chased down the target, scoring 103 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 30 overs. Raymond Coker, who received the Man of the Match award, made significant contributions with both bat and ball.
Next, Sierra Leone will face Botswana today, Wednesday, 7th August 2024, as they continue to compete in Group B of the tournament.
The host nation, Tanzania Cricket Association U19, also seems poised to advance to the semi-finals, with strong competition among nations vying for the 2nd spot in the final group matches.
