The Sierra Leone government and the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) have decided to boost the country’s top-flight male and female football league with a mouth-watering 5 billion Leones cash injection, according to reports.
The cash injection is to complete the second phase of the ongoing Sierra Leone Premier League and, for the first time in many years, to revive female football.
Both government and the Football Association gave 2.5 billion Leones each to total 2.5 billion Leones.
Government contributed 1.5 billion Leones for the female division one league and an additional 1 billion Leones from the SLFA for the completion of the second phase of the Male Premier League premises.
“Of the 2.5 billion Leones from the football association according to the president Daddy Brima, 1 billion Leones is for the female league and the 1.5 billion Leones is for the male elite Premier League.
According to the chair lady of the Women’s league board Asmaa James the female league will start in May and 12 teams will compete in a two round league.
