The Sierra Leone U-20 National Team, known as the Shooting Stars, is set to make history as they prepare for their first appearance in the TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled to take place in Morocco, 2025.
Placed in Group C for the AFCON alongside Senegal, Gambia, and Kenya, the Sierra Leone U-20 National Team, alias, Shooting Stars seem focused and optimistic, ready to represent Sierra Leone with pride.
Their journey to AFCON was solidified on September 25, 2024, when the Shooting Stars defeated The Gambia 3-0 in the semi-finals of the WAFU A’ U20 tournament. This victory not only propelled them into the tournament’s grand final but also secured their place in the upcoming 2025 AFCON.
In their qualifying match to the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, Captain Mohamed I. Kamara emerged as a standout player, scoring the decisive goal alongside contributions from teammates Idriss Sesay and Samuel Ghandi. This victory marks the Shooting Stars’ third win in four matches during the seven-nation tournament, showcasing their impressive performance and teamwork.
The nation eagerly anticipates their debut in the upcoming prestigious African tournament, hoping to inspire future generations of footballers and cultivate a sense of national pride amongst their supporters.
