The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Executive Committee has approved sweeping changes to the country’s domestic football structure, including the suspension of relegation across all major leagues and the establishment of a fixed annual competition calendar.

The decisions, reached during a meeting on Sunday, October 19, 2025, follow a nationwide stakeholder engagement on “Revamping the Football Ecosystem and Finding a Workable Football Calendar.” T

he moves are intended to stabilize the football environment and ensure proper planning and consistency.

A key outcome is the suspension of relegation across all tiers of men’s and women’s football for the transition from the 2024/2025 season.

The SLFA stated this will allow clubs “the opportunity to prepare adequately for the new football calendar while improving their technical, administrative, and financial capacities.”

The new schedule reveals an imminent start to the 2025/2026 season, with the Men’s Super Cup kicking off on October 31, 2025, and the Men’s Premier League beginning on November 8, 2025. The Women’s Premier League will start a week later on November 15, 2025.
