The Race Director of the upcoming Street Child Sierra Leone Marathon, Alusine Kanu, has revealed that the event will offer a total of NLe 20,000 in cash awards for the 10th edition of the race.
The marathon is scheduled for this Sunday, April 30th, 2023 in Makeni City. Kanu stated that over one hundred international runners are expected to participate in the event, which will take place during the country’s independence week.
The cash prizes will be awarded to the top three runners in each of the four events. The winners of the male and female categories of the full marathon will receive NLe 2,000 each, while runners-up will be awarded NLe 1,500 each and NLe 1,000 each for the third position. For the half marathon, winners of the male and female categories will receive NLe 1,000 each, with runners-up receiving NLe 800 each and NLe 700 each for the third position.
The winners of the 10K marathon will receive NLe 700 each, while runners-up and third-place runners will receive NLe 600 each and NLe 500 each, respectively. In the 5K marathon, winners of the two categories will receive NLe 500 each, runners-up will receive NLe 400, and NLe 300 will be awarded to the third position.
Kanu encouraged interested participants to sign up, with the registration fee of NLe 40 for the 5K marathon, NLe 80 for the 10K marathon, NLe 120 for the half marathon, and NLe 200 for the full marathon.
